An Introduction To The GP2X Wiz

The GP2X Wiz system was first seen as an image that was leaked on to the web at the end of July, 2008. Rumors about GamePark Holdings being in a process of creating a new handheld had been circulating after they had rather unexpectedly stopped production of their first handheld, the GP2X, around late June or early July.

GamePark finally announced in August, 2008, that they planned to release a brand new handheld called the Wiz. In addition to this announcement, they put out a brochure that detailed a lot of the launch information, and it even had the system's specs. In the brochure it said that new games were going to be released each and every month for the system, and this is a deviation from the GP2X, which had few commercial games. However, the GP2X Wiz still seems to be advertised as an open-source system that is meant to be for homebrew creation of emulators and games.

Then in early September, 2008, the report was the GP2X Wiz's button layout was due to be revised, and the second D-Pad, located to the right-hand side of the system, was going to be removed. For these design changes to be made, the release date of the system was suppose to be pushed back to November, 2008.

The GP2X Wiz had it's official launch on May 13, 2009, and arrived with a $179.99 retail price. Your GP2X Wiz video game console comes with a loaded accessory kit containing a SD card case, spare stylus, wrist strap, screen protector and a really nice leather carrying case.
